I find it interesting that the common English name of Astrantia is 'Masterwort'. Its German counterpart 'Meisterwurz', however, refers to Peucedanum, while Astrantia is called 'Sterndolde' (= 'Star Umbel' ).
Astrantia from Mediaeval Latin 'magistrantia'(masterwort), magister (master).
Astrantia major is Greater Masterwort, which is what this should be, as it is actually Astrantia major 'Roma'.
Astrantia from Greek, aster, refers to the starry heads.
I did look up Peucedanum and this also is called Masterwort.
